Extended mathematics, in which the standard mathematics framework supplemented by additional topics and skills, providing greater breadth and depth. Extended mathematics provides the foundation for students who wish to pursue further studies in mathematics, such as mathematics higher level (HL), which is part of the IB Diploma Programme (DP).
The IB Mathematics course, a two-year course, includes a survey of mathematics , including elements of pre-calculus, calculus, and statistics. Students do not need to be in accelerated math in grades nine and ten, but should have completed both Algebra 2 and Geometry by the end of tenth grade.
The IB does not do a good job of distinguishing between the four courses, but from what I can gather, Mathematical Studies SL is the lowest level of mathematics, then Mathematics SL, then Mathematics HL, then Further Mathematics HL. Four new IB Math class options have been available since August 2019 and will have their first assessments in May 2021:, This is a class for students who are looking for the most challenging mathematics class, with a view of taking the Higher Level IB mathematics course in their junior and senior year. During the year, students will build on the skills they developed during the Algebra II Honors course, becoming better at analyzing problems, working accurately, and explaining their methods.
