The story comes from an oral tradition so it is unknown when it was first told. Where it went next. It was recorded in English in 1861 by the Reverend John Williams, as the introduction to the associated legend The Physicians of Myddfai. The location of the story , Llyn y Fan Fach , in the Brecon Beacons, is a popular tourist destination in Wales.


The Lady of Llyn y Fan Fach According to one version of the legend the a boy would graze his sheep and cattle around the local lake of Llyn y Fan Fach which is situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park.He would spend the long hours of the day gazing into the waters of the lake and daydreaming.


The Lady of Llyn y Fan Fach was first published in English in 1861 as the introduction to The Physicians of Myddfai. The tale had originally been written down by William Rees from Llanymddyfri. She does show herself to her sons though and teaches them medicine, thus rooting the tale in historical reality since these sons established a line of famous Welsh physicians that continued till the 18th century. I won’t tell you the end of my own story with a beloved from a different land.
